Set 1,500 metres above Ehrwald in the Austrian Alps, Eriro is a nine suite mountain retreat accessible only by cable car. Architect Martin Gruber, worked with co-owners Dominik and Amelie Posch and timber specialist Andreas Mader and transformed a 1936 inn into a contemporary interpretation of Tyrolean architecture, surrounded by alpine meadows, forests and the Zugspitze mountains.

The architecture is rooted in local materials and craftsmanship. Most of the timber was harvested from nearby forests or reclaimed from old barns and the interiors combine rough wood, raw stone, and thick panels of sheep’s wool. Most furniture was custom made for the property, reinforcing the sense that the building belongs specifically to its setting.
