One of the quiet forces behind travel is the desire to feel small—to stand beneath something vast and indifferent. Aboard the Polar Explorer (a retired icebreaker) near the Arctic Circle, that feeling becomes tangible as guests witness the icebreaking process and step onto the frozen expanse itself. Once reserved for scientists and specialized crews, the vessel now offers a rare, firsthand encounter with the vast Arctic conditions.

After cutting through the ice, guests are invited to float among the ice sheets in insulated survival suits in a path carved by the ship. What begins with hesitation quickly turns to quiet exhilaration, ending with mulled wine and a lingering sense of calm unique to the Arctic.
